The USS Arizona Memorial commemorates the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, prompting the U.S. to enter World War II. This place is also the resting place of 1177 American soldiers who died there.

This memorial was inaugurated in 1962 and is visited by more than one million people each year. There you can see the wreck of battle who remain stranded at sea and visitors can also access the historical information of the attack and the site of the sinking ferry.
One of the most important of this memorial is the central room that has 7 large windows on every wall and ceiling to mark the day of the attack, 7 December 1941. There is also a hole in the floor where the ship is sunk and some stains caused by fuel from the ship. These are known as “the tears of the Arizona” or “black tears” and this is where visitors honored the fallen by throwing some flowers.

Visits to this site are free and there you can go to a museum which has exhibits about the attack on Pearl Harbor. Access to the memorial itself is done in a boat of the United States Navy to go there you need a ticket obtained at the Visitor Center. Due to the limited number of boat travel daily are only given 4500 tickets that are usually depleted at midmorning.

    America’s oldest living Medal of Honor recipient, living his 101st year is former enlisted Chief Petty Officer, Aviation Chief Ordnanceman (ACOM), later wartime commissioned Lieutenant John W. Finn, U. S. Navy (Ret.). He is also the last surviving Medal of Honor, “The Day of Infamy”, Japanese Attack on the Hawaiian Islands, Naval Air Station, Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, Territory of Hawaii, 7 December 1941.
