Kiev, Capital of Ukraine, located on the right bank of the Dnieper River, called by Russians “Mother of Cities”, being the oldest of which form the CIS and considered one of the cities in the world has more green space (60% of urban).
We start our tour visiting the Cathedral of St. Sophia (1037), a symbol of Kiev, now converted into a museum. Walking along its long avenues, we find the Golden Gate (XI cent), which was the main entrance of the city, on which stands the Church of the Annunciation, beside which we find the State Theater Opera (recommended to attend one of his performances).
After a long walk, we can rest in its large parks, knowing the botanical garden and full of the university environment on the campus of the University, a cultural symbol for the Ukrainians, for spreading progressive ideas and defend the democratization of society.
Maybe it’s time to stop and taste the cuisine of Ukraine and recover energy in a nice restaurant at the center of town, amidst a large park, called O’PANAS. The meals are plentiful, we highlight their appetizers of caviar, blinis (pancakes corn herring sour cream sauce), their Borsh, hot soups of vegetables to combat the cold mornings (delicious), the Kulebiakas (typical pie pastry and salmon) and fish such as salmon or sturgeon. To accompany this hearty meal, how could it be otherwise, Ukrainian Vodka is usually very cold drink or beer Kvas sweet.
This allows us to keep walking to visit one of the oldest parts of the city, The Podol, which is the church of St. Andrew, with 5 green domes that contrast with the striking blue facade. Saturday concerts of early music perform Russian and Ukrainian (do not miss it).
In the vital center of Podol find artisans and merchants, where you can buy beautiful memories, the popular matryoshkas wood, balalaika (musical instrument), Ukrainian embroidered shirts, exquisite caviar (make sure its quality when it is wrapped and only can pass through customs 400 grams) and the Ukrainian Vodka (it is always better if you recommend a brand, someone from Kiev).
Very close Podol, is the park Vladimir Hill, where we can enjoy one of the prettiest sights of Kiev and admire the monument to Prince Vladimir. We can relax, breathe the air of calm and rest.
To end our walk we arrive, its main street Ulica Krescatick by which daily life takes place in Kiev, Plaza de la Revolucion de Octubre. We’ll stop for a moment, to enjoy the monument to the October Revolution, the animation that breathes for being the gathering of the inhabitants of Kiev.
We will use to make a delicious espresso in its many cafes (some very nice) and mix with its people, in cold and warm expression in treatment.
All can end with a pleasant evening in a typical restaurant Ukrainian, Ukainski Stravi, you must be reserved for the time you want, enjoying the live Ukrainian music while dining.
