SÃndrome Stendhal; Describes the effect that it suffers when exposed to an overdose of beauty. It originated in the nineteenth century when the French writer Stendhal visited Florence in 1817.
Seen this way may seem silly, but I assure you once you’ve been to Florence may seem even slightly exaggerated. After visiting this beautiful city, capital of Tuscany, admiring the statues, visiting famous museums and art galleries, churches and domes, palaces and gardens, bridges, cafes and restaurants … so you’ll feel dizzy, have palpitations and dizziness … experience the Stendhal Syndrome.
I suffered this syndrome when I saw the David of Michelangelo, the original is in the Galleria dell’Accademia, where it was moved to avoid spoilage, but a copy in its original condition, Piazza della Signoria. It’s just perfect! can not stop staring at him … worth endure the long queue to enter, because it really is impressive. As if this museum is not much more, is a short visit, but it will take some time to assimilate so much beauty.
It is clear that once in Florence is essential to visit (among others) ,and up to his dome to enjoy views of the city, besides being able to watch very closely the beautiful dome by Brunelleschi, the Campanile, the Baptistery, the Museum Opera del Duomo (with objects outside the Duomo, Campanile and Baptistery, in addition to the no less impressive unfinished Pieta by Michelangelo), the Uffizi Gallery (where you breathe art for the four sides and where you can see “Spring” and “The Birth of Venus” by Botticelli), the Palazzo Vecchio, the churches of Santa Croce (where the remains of many geniuses among them Galileo Galilei, Dante, Machiavelli and Michelangelo) and Santa Maria Novella Pitti Palace and Gardens, the Ponte Vecchio, in addition to stroll through its famous squares and streets.
